Survival Information

Survival Information – Separates you from the pack.

When I started looking for good, solid survival information, I found the internet to be lacking. How can one become a survivalist, if there are no solid tactics shared?

Not that there wasn’t a glut of stuff out there, just not a lot of substance. I didn’t know which way to turn.

From conspiracy theorists to extremists, no one provided clear answers to the simplest of questions. SO I developed my own long list of questions and then looked for specific answers.

For example:

  • What survival foods should I keep in a survival pack? (more than you think, but less than you fear)
  • Are MREs the answer? (Not in most circumstances – unless you’re very active, these meals work against you)
  • Should I get a generator? (depends on your circumstances, but it doesn’t hurt to have one)

There are so many questions, it would be impossible to answer them all in one post.

So, I came up with an easier way: Walk through your day –

Survival Information - Emergency Preparedness

Yes, that’s right

Walk through your dayWhat do you need? These are the things you can use to figure out the information you need. Do you take medications? Then you need them in your survival cache. Each step you take gives you one more hint about what you need to survive day-in and day-out. Some of the hottest prepping items are those things you need each day – don’t think just in terms of the immediate, think outside the box. You may need to build shelters, and for that you will need equipment – maybe an axe, a folding shovel…things like these will be very useful!

You need flashlights – but most of us forget to make sure we keep fresh batteries with them. As a survivalist, you need to think past the initial and into the unexpected. The best way to protect yourself is to have the supplies on hand that answer your needs. You can utilize the resources at hand by learning how to think ahead, seeing beyond the obvious.

But, to save time, I will steer you toward a great resource – check out the FEMA website for survival information here – Even though many are not that trusting of the government, they have a pretty solid list of things that could help you start your planning. After you read through the facts on this site, join an online forum to get tips for kids and gain knowledge that helps you in your emergency preparedness.

They have a basic disaster supplies kit list that is a great place to get started – they also suggest ways to properly maintain it, kit storage suggestions, gear like straps, tools, knives and foods that you should include. Unfortunately, their kit is only a three day supply, so you will need to adjust it to allow for a longer period – but at least it is a start. While you’re at it, think about hunting and fishing – you might need to gather more food than you have on hand. Trapping small game in the wilderness is one way to be sure you will eat.

No matter where you get your information, if you don’t start putting some things together, it won’t help you.

Start today.

How could anyone think that FEMA would be able to help? There have been so many crises just in the past few years where they either could not get to people or did not get there. That is not a survival plan at all! good post.

In all fairness, they do try. But they don’t have unlimited resources. and they are limited by access issues just like anyone else!

FEMA does as good a job as they can. But they are not miracle workers. Sometimes they just can’t get there fast enough.

This is so true, if you are not prepared to survive, you will become a target.

This is an astute observation, without being prepared, someone who is stronger will be able to take whatever you DO have.
